in the N.A.W.A. GALLERY
December 7, 2011 - January 4, 2012
Reception: Wednesday, December 14, 2011 - 5-7pm
Judi Gilden's path to grace as an artist is her capacity to apreciate the magnificence of the natural world which surrounds us, and to express that truth in her art. Her work, therefore is a reflection of the beauty she sees and joy she finds in her life. Creating art is a healing endeavor, and that moment of creation is, for Gilden, the greatest celebration of all that is. Working representationally, she creates expressive and sincere works, providing a convincing illusion and pleasing interplay of form, color and space using various forms of water media. Judi works primarily in watercolor, but also in casein and mixed water media.
"What I love about working with watercolor is its unique freshness, its clean sparkle, clarity and luminosity. Its flexibility is endless. Like a genie out of a magic lamp, it can become whatever you wish. Every painting has the potential to emerge as a celebration of the medium. I especially enjoy experimenting with color, and with many layers of glazing, creating harmonious mixes, using veils of color to produce subtle changes and fine nuances in my work".
"Judi Gilden's watercolor paintings have the simple clarity and purity only found in transparent watercolor done with a well practiced hand and a creative mind". - June Ann Sullivan, Watercolorist and owner of Watermark Gallery, Tuckerton, NJ. "...Gilden's watercolors enhance my home..Just looking at her innovvative interpretations of nature gives me a deep sense of peace. Her originality and creativity are to be applauded". - Roberta Krantz, Director, Arts and Community Center, Ocean County College.
